Writing Prompt Series Revision & Revival

Okay, so it’s been a minute since I’ve posted anything. Somewhere along the line of the beginning of this year even my Wednesday Words Reborn prompt series got swept under the rug. I kept telling myself I would start again the first Wednesday of the new month.

And the next month…

And the month after that…

And another…

That clearly never happened.

The whole reason I started this series–to honor P. T. Wyant, my friend and mentor, who passed unexpectedly in September 2024–is coming up on a two-year death anniversary. I can’t believe it’s been that long already. It feels like yesterday. I started this series around Samhain 2024. I shocked myself when I kept it going for over a year. Until… Well, you see from above here. It seems fitting that I try to revive it with this date creeping up again. I did enjoy hosting it, but it had some kinks to work out as well.

P. T. kept her prompts simple. Lines. Photos. Groups of things to include. Nothing special. I mostly followed that lead but started adding on some of my own spins. Genre prompts. Settings. Weird news. I kept things just as simple because I was new to this hosting prompt thing and I also only had so many spoons to dish out in getting weeks’ worth of prompts and blog posts ready and scheduled. Not to mention the extra time of sharing said posts across my socials to try and draw some attention. It’s more work than you think, and it could be taxing in its own way.

Admittedly, the weird news prompts were total flops, I think, so they aren’t likely to continue. I’ll probably turn those ones into something else if I can find a creative way to do so. Photo and line prompts are by far the most popular I saw. I have some ideas for other prompts, like mad lib style prompts. Or finish the sentence kinds of prompts. I’m going to try a new format when sharing to my social media pages as well. The second whole point to this series was to make consistent content that drove people to my website and my socials after all, even though I hardly got much engagement at all on these. Someone in my writing group recommended giving teasers on the socials, inviting them to come to the blog to get the full prompt. Initially, I disliked the idea. That’s making things more complicated for a girl who already doesn’t have a lot of spoons to dish out. I came to understand her reasoning though. People on socials don’t want to follow links to blogs to get the tea. They want fast and ready. So, I’ve decided her idea is worth playing around with. It’s going to limit my array of prompts because some things just can’t be teased though.

Anyways, a long story short, I came here to update that I’m still alive. Life has just been life-ing pretty hard this year. I plan to raise #WWReborn from the grave starting in October, with some new twists if you follow my socials. Y’all who get my prompts directly from the blog aren’t likely to see the teasers I’m going to try to implement. (I mean, unless you want to go follow me on Twitter, Bluesky, or Facebook. By all means, the more the merrier!)

I did, however, want to pose one question: What prompts do you like to see most? What prompts engage you the most? Drop me your responses in the comments. I’m open to all feedback here.

  1. Glad you’re still alive, and thank you for keeping Rainbow Snippets going! I’ve been trying to make progress in my Works in Progress, so I’ve come up with my own ways of prompting myself, but P.T. Wyant actually inspired some of those Works with her prompts. Sometimes it was a picture, sometimes it was a sentence, sometimes it was 3 words. I have a feeling that whatever feels right to you, connects you to Paula’s memory, and you can come up with weekly is going to be the answer. Sorry for being ambiguous, but I think what you wish to do on Wednesdays will be something that perhaps you shared with Paula, carrying on a spark of what she inspired in others? This could be something utterly simple, for all I’m putting this in a convoluted way. (wry grin) Something you see, hear, and decide to just throw out as a prompt. Paula often did that; coming up with something like “a barn, cold, headache”, and letting people see what they could make of it.

    • Thank you. She certainly pulled simple things out of thin air to make prompts. I’m still following that path in my own way with this coming revival. The new twists aren’t all that major. Regardless of how I make my prompts, it still embodies her. It wouldn’t exist without her.

  2. I am glad you’re getting back to the emails!!! Yay! I’m sorry you’d lost your mentor. It’s really cool you honouring here though.

Just a little feedback that I am not a prompt-driven person at all! I couldn’t care less for doing them in general haha. So many people love them though!!
I’ll be keeping an eye our for the writing update parts ❤️❤️❤️🥰🥰🥰

    • You are the best. Thank you so much! 🥹 Writing prompts just aren’t some people’s cup of tea, and that’s totally cool. I just wanted to continue my dear friend’s memory, and, you know, consistent content of some kind is never a bad thing to have either. Lol.

Hopefully you will start seeing some more writerly updates! They might be once a month here, maaayybe two, but I’m trying. The socials are at least picking back up! I’m posting Twitter/Bluesky/Facebook more consistently again.
